Your vote counts

Vote for your interests in the reorganization

HMR & DMR  •  Institutes  •  Why vote?

What do the HMR and DMR actually do?

Students, pay attention! The elections for the co-governance councils are underway! Are you wondering what the Hanze Co-governance Council (HMR) and Decentral Co-governance Council (DMR) actually do? Simply put: it’s your official way to have a say in how things are arranged at the Hanze, from the big picture to what happens in your specific program or department.

Think of the HMR as the main council for students and employees for the entire university. You also have the Decentral Co-governance Councils (DMRs); these are the local councils for your specific institute or school. Their main task? Making sure your voice, and that of employees, is heard when important decisions are made, about policy, money and the quality of your studies.

Why is voting important?

These mergers are more than some rearrangements. They can affect:

  • The atmosphere and culture of your study program if it merges into a larger cluster.
  • Your course offerings and specializations within your studies.
  • The focus of teaching and research within the new thematic clusters.
  • The accessibility and interpretation of student support.

Co-governance is your voice in this process. The HMR and DMR play a crucial role in the rollout of the reforms. Without their consent, plans cannot simply go forward. The councils talk directly with the directors. By voting in the elections, you choose the students who negotiate and decide on these mergers on your behalf. They guard your interests, such as small scale, good supervision and a diverse range of subjects. A high turnout gives the HMR and DMR a stronger mandate.

Students, don't get screwed over; vote in the HMR and DMR!
