Are you that student who sometimes wonders during a lecture: "Who on earth came up with this policy?" Or do you see that the quality of your education is under pressure and want to do something about it, rather than just complaining about it at the coffee machine? Then we are looking for you!

The Groninger Student Union (GSb) is looking for committed candidates who want to represent the voice of students on the faculty council at your RUG faculty.

What are you going to do?

As a council member, you are the link between the students and the faculty board. You are a critical discussion partner with ideas. Your responsibilities include:

  • The TER (Teaching and Examination Regulations): Ensuring that students' rights remain protected.
  • Budgets: Is the money being spent on good education or on shiny new office buildings?
  • Faculty policy: From lecture recordings to student welfare and from exam pressure to study spaces.
Why choose GSb?

You are not alone in the council. As a GSb faction, you are part of the oldest and most critical student party in Groningen. We offer you:

  • Direct support: Help with reading difficult policy documents.
  • A strong network: Contact with the other factions and the rest of the union.
  • Training: Learn how to debate effectively and influence policy.
  • Ideology: We fight for accessible, high-quality, and socially inclusive education.
Who are you?
  • You are a student at the University of Groningen (the exact faculty does not matter, we are looking for people for all councils!).
  • You're not afraid to speak your mind, even when the dean is sitting across from you.
  • You have a passion for public service and a progressive vision of education.
  • You are available for an average of 6 hours per week for meetings and preparation.
Coffee?

Are you interested, or would you like to find out if this is something for you first? We don't bite (usually). Send a short email with your motivation or questions to apply@groningerstudentenbond.nl, send us a DM via our social media channels or give us a call.

They can't, but we can. Together, we can make the faculty more democratic. Become a candidate for the GSb!

Do you feel that Hanze sometimes resembles a business more than an educational institution? Are decisions about your program made in the ivory tower of Van Olsttoren, without really listening to students? It's time to change that.

The Groninger Student Union (GSb) is looking for combative students who want to represent the union on the Hanze University Council (HMR). We are not looking for yes-men, but students who dare to stand up for their rights.

What are you going to do?

As a member of the HMR, you will participate in discussions and decision-making at the highest level of the Hanze University of Applied Sciences. You will be the voice that asks critical questions to the Executive Board about:

  • The reforms: Are students being given sufficient consideration?
  • Internships and internship allowances: Because interns are not cheap labor.
  • Accommodation and facilities: Is there enough space to study, or are we fighting for every square meter?
  • Accessibility: Ensuring that higher professional education remains accessible to everyone, regardless of your background or financial situation.
Why choose GSb?

The GSb is more than just a faction in the council; we are the student union. That means you have an entire organization behind you

  • Activist supporters: We also take action outside the meeting room when necessary.
  • Case knowledge: You will receive support in understanding complex budgets and regulations.
  • Training: Learn how to debate effectively and influence policy.
  • Apowerful network: You will join a group of motivated students from Hanze University of Applied Sciences, the University of Groningen, and beyond.
Who are you?
  • You are a proud Hanze student (all years and programs are welcome).
  • You are socially engaged and have a progressive vision of higher professional education.
  • You dare to express your opinion, even when the chair of the board is sitting opposite you.
  • You are willing to invest approximately 8 hours per week in improving the college.

Is this something for you?

Are you interested, or would you like to find out more about whether this is something for you? We don't bite (usually). We would be happy to explain what it means to represent the union in the HMR in an informal conversation (over coffee or beer). Send a short email with your motivation or questions to apply@groningerstudentenbond.nl, send us a DM via our social media channels or give us a call.

They can't, but we can. Together, we can make Hanze more democratic. Become a candidate for the GSb!

Become part of the GSb Research Bureau!

The GSb Research Bureau conducts independent research with a high social impact in a non-academic environment. Our research is read by administrators at the University of Groningen, Hanze University of Applied Sciences, and the municipality of Groningen. The GSb press officer also ensures that the research receives local attention. As a member of the research bureau, you will develop various skills and it will look good on your resume.

During an academic year, a small group of students conducts research into issues that concern students. Last year, this involved a mixed-method study into student well-being, in which the results were compared with a similar study conducted by the research agency in 2017. Another well-known study is our 2015 study on student housing. This study revealed that international students in Groningen pay an average of 75% more rent. This study also received national media attention at the time.

One study is conducted each year, and you are expected to remain with the research agency for at least one year. There is approximately one meeting per week, and research is conducted outside of the meetings. Apart from studying social sciences, there are no further requirements.

Interested? Send an email to onderzoeksbureau@groningerstudentenbond.nl, with a short motivation and list of experience.
