Are you looking for something to do in addition to your studies? Then becoming active in one of our working groups or committees is a great option. You can gain a lot of knowledge and also support many students in Groningen. You will have the opportunity to work within a team of enthusiastic students from different studies. Within this team you will not only have a great time, but you will also acquire skills such as planning and organising. Become part of the Groninger Student Union Research Bureau!

The GSb Research Bureau conducts independent research with a high societal impact in a non-academic environment. Our research is read by the leaders of both the University of Groningen, the Hanze University of Applied Sciences, and the municipality of Groningen. The GSb’s press officer also ensures that the research receives local attention. Joining the Research Bureau allows you to develop various skills, and it looks good on your resume.

Throughout an academic year, a small group of students will conduct research on matters concerning students. Last year, this involved a mixed-method study on student well-being, where the results were compared to a similar study from the GSb Research Bureau in 2017. Another well-known study is our 2015 research on student housing. The research revealed that international students in Groningen pay on average 75% more in rent. This research also received national media coverage at the time.

Each year, one study is conducted, and you are expected to remain with the Research Bureau for at least one year. There is approximately one meeting per week, and research is conducted outside of these meetings. Apart from pursuing a degree in the social sciences, there are no further requirements.

The Designers collective is responsible for the visual identity of the Groninger Studentenbond! Do you want to unleash your creativity on designing for a website, campaign, and even our magazine Nait Soez’n? Then apply now by sending an email to intern@groningerstudentenbond.nl! No resume or portfolio is needed.

The Designers Collective is a new working group, consisting of GSb’s most creative minds. Together with other members, you plan and execute how our union is presented towards the rest of the world in the promotional materials. Unlike PR, this does not include organising stunts and marketing campaigns. However, what you decide to do is up to your imagination! Think stickers, buttons, or even socks! With the Designers Collective, you will meet once every two weeks. How much time you commit on top of that, is up entirely up to you! Everyone is welcome! Experience with design software like Adobe Creative Cloud or Canva is not necessary, but it is appreciated.

The Nait Soez’n is the independent opinion magazine of the Groningen Student Union. The editorial team consists of ten members from different corners of the student community, who write an article for the physical editions of the Nait Soez’n twice a year. The editorial team meets sporadically to discuss articles and other matters in an accessible and friendly way. For now, Nait Soez’n is only availably in Dutch. Hopefully in the future we can offer an English translation online! Stay tuned!

The Education Team is formed of like-minded students that not only care about the quality of education at the RUG and Hanze, but also the way politics can influence that. The GSb has close ties with co-governance bodies at both the RUG and Hanzehogeschool, especially in the past year when we’ve made the move to rediscover our co-governance roots after a 10-year hiatus, which we believe gives us a direct seat at the table when it comes to lobbying for student rights. During the election season, the Education Team was behind our carefully crafted election programmes, where we championed matters such as social safety, mental health, advocating for more third spaces for students and ensuring that democracy is sufficiently upheld. Thanks to their efforts, we were able to reintegrate into co-governance at the RUG Faculty level.

If you also care about the quality of education at your institution and student well-being and want to work closely with co-governance bodies in reforming and drafting policy that benefits the student body, then a spot on this team would give you a chance to achieve this! Furthermore, this past year, we’ve organised our very successful Pub Quiz, where we offered students free home-cooked dinner and a fun time. Interested? GSb’s Action is a group of students dedicated to on the ground, real activism. We are engaged in creating ideas to fight for student-related issues. Apart from developing close relationships within the activist community and creating change in Groningen, you will also be involved with the LSVb’s (national student union) actions.

  • Protests
  • Working times depend on the current campaign
  • Weekly or bi-weekly meetings

If you are very passionate about activism and are willing to lead the committee, we are in search of an Action team coordinator. The only requirement is that you must be fluent in Dutch, as this requires a lot of collaboration with the national student union, which conducts weekly meetings in Dutch.

  • 3 hours of fixed working time
  • Leading meetings
